Vision :Where students learn creatively and strive for excellence, preparing for lifelong learning.
Core Focus: Our core business is teaching literacy and numeracy. This will always be a central focus for Kelburn Normal School and we will strive for high levels of achievement in these areas.

- We aim to provide an environment which is:
- Safe, healthy, and stimulating for learning and playing
- In managing our school roll we aim to:
- Have classroom sizes of no more than 30 students with smaller class sizes in the junior school and specialist teachers in numeracy and literacy to provide higher teacher/pupil ratios in the senior school
- Encourage enrolment of international students to promote cultural diversity and provide additional income.
- The School recognises and supports the National Educational Priorities as set by the Ministry of Education
Strategic Priorities for 2009:
- To enhance the information literacy of pupils and staff as a means of improving learning outcomes across the core curriculum
- To develop and extend the music and performing arts programme to support the core curriculum and the achievement of other goals
- To create and sustain a teaching culture of best practice.
These priorities will be achieved through the following annual goals during 2009:
Goal 1 Implementation of the Revised Curriculum
Develop a model for the implementation of the new curriculum which embeds the Key Competencies, creativity and Information Literacy; empowering learners to function in the knowledge society. (supports strategic priority 1 and 2)
Goal 2 School Wide Assessment & Evaluation Procedures
To maximise student learning, Kelburn Normal School will use the very best assessment tools available. (supports strategic priority 3)
Goal 3 Special Needs
At Kelburn Normal School we aim to close the gap in student achievement by providing high quality, high equity personalised, well informed learning. (supports strategic priority 3)
Goal 4: Care for Others
Investment in People and maintaining a positive school culture where parents, teachers and students work together as a community of learners. (Strategic priority1,2 and 3)
Goal 5: Investment in Infrastructure
Investment in an infrastructure to enable Kelburn Normal School to maximise student learning through the delivery of the Board of Trustees Strategic direction. (supports strategic priority 1,2, and 3)
