Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Kia ora koutou

The KNS Parent Teacher Association is a motivated group of parents, caregivers and teachers who work together to improve our school community – a community you are now a welcome part of.

Our PTA has three main objectives that guide us:

  • Engagement – encouraging parent involvement to ensure a connected and convivial school community

  • Collaboration – facilitating and encouraging cooperation between the PTA, Board of Trustees, and teachers/KNS staff to keep enhancing the school and learning environment

  • Fundraising – generating and maintaining funds for the benefit of KNS and our tamariki

We do this by:

Community engagement

We organise several events during the year aimed at connecting tamariki and families, such as the annual School Picnic, morning coffees, helping with Matariki celebrations, Talent Quest, and a Pub Quiz. Working bees are organised to help keep our gardens, grounds, and beloved Gully, in safe and welcoming condition. We also have a roster of parents/caregivers who supervise and support tamariki with Road Patrol duties. These are all fun activities, a great way to be part of the school community, and a chance to get together with new and old friends.

Fundraising

The PTA raises funds to help purchase items for the school that it would otherwise not have funding for. We do this in a variety of ways – both big and small. Over the last few years we have coordinated events such as School Galas (link to 2019 gala video), Home and Garden Tour, Quiz nights, BBQs and Bake Sales, and Movie afternoons. Each year we also sell Entertainment Books and Kids’ Artwork Calendars and Gifts.

In the past, the funds raised have helped to purchase computers and ICT equipment, playground and sports equipment, musical instruments, uniforms for groups such as Kapa Haka and Lyrica choir, and much more.

How can you help?

Every parent and caregiver is part of the KNS PTA! You can help in many different ways, ranging from coming to PTA meetings, helping out at events, contributing baking to school fundraisers, being a road patrol supervisor, or sorting out the lost property box. We believe that many hands make light work, and we greatly appreciate all the support and help from our parent community.

Being part of the PTA is an excellent way to get involved in the school and meet other families. You can have a say about what happens around the school and help make that happen.

Everyone is welcome to attend PTA meetings. We generally hold these twice a term, on a Monday evening. You can also contact us on pta@kelburnnormal.school.nz .

We look forward to meeting you,
